This course is designed to give a candidate the concept of using handcuffs rather than a course for specific types. The candidate will use various types of handcuffs thereby learning the good and bad aspects of each. When operationally it will not matter which type the candidate is issued, as the correct application will be firmly fixed in their mind.  Certification is on successful completion of a practical and written evaluation. It is recommended that candidates reclassify every 12 months in order to remain court credible. The objectives of the course are, at the end of the course the candidate will be able; 1. To understand the Home Office guidelines on the use of handcuffs, 2. To understand the current UK legislation on the Use of Force, 3. Develop an understanding of the Medical implications of the use of handcuffs, 4. Develop the skills needed in the Carriage and daily checks. Parts of the equipment, 5. To develop the motor skills needed for the Grip, draw and correct application site. Various methods of application, 6. To develop the motor skills needed to apply the correct control holds to use when applying handcuffs and the safe method of removal. how to change handcuffs should the police wish to use theirs.
